Sarah Kennedy, pregnant mum working in the NHS in Nottinghamshire, got her flu vaccine at her GP practice.
Sarah who has experienced previous complications before and during her first pregnancy, including multiple miscarriages, has always seen the importance of vaccinations and keeping herself well.
Sarah who lives with her husband and 3 and a half year old son said “If I was to fall ill this could be very dangerous for not just myself but my unborn baby and for my son, so I’m always conscious of keeping myself as healthy as possible. I’ve never experienced any side effects from the flu vaccine and feel confident having this pregnant or not”.
Dr Husein Mawji, a GP at the Victoria and Mapperley Practice, said: “Catching flu whilst pregnant can cause you to have a miscarriage, or for your baby to be born prematurely or with a low birthweight. Having the flu vaccination whilst pregnant gives the best protection for women and their unborn babies.
I am delighted Sarah has protected herself and her baby by taking the flu vaccination, and encourage all pregnant women to do the same”.
Pregnant women in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire can get the free flu vaccine from their GP or at most local pharmacies.
