Where can I get a vaccine in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire?
We are delivering the vaccine in Hospital Hubs, Local Vaccination Services, large-scale sites and pharmacies and GPs across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
Our hospital hubs are: Queen’s Medical Centre and King’s Mill Hospital.
Our local vaccination services are:

- Richard Herrod Centre
Through the national booking service you will also be able to book a vaccine at the large-scale Vaccination Centre in Mansfield or your nearest pharmacy-led site.
What happens at your appointment?
When you arrive at the site to be vaccinated, you will need to ensure that you are wearing a face mask. Social distancing will also be in place. Anyone under the eligible age criteria who is Clinically Extremely Vulnerable will need to bring their invitation letter or their shielding letter to their appointment as proof that they are eligible for vaccination. Questions will be asked about your medical history and it is important that you inform staff if you are pregnant or if you have ever had a severe allergic reaction in the past. The vaccine will be given as an injection into your upper arm by a trained professional and you may be asked to wait for 15 minutes after having your vaccination. Those who are unable to attend their appointment alone can take one chaperone to assist them.
What if I have Covid-19 symptoms?
You should not attend your appointment if you are self-isolating, waiting for a COVID-19 test or unsure if you are fit and well. Vaccination should also be delayed until one month after a positive COVID test.
What happens after I have had the vaccine?
You will require two doses of the COVID-19 vaccination to ensure best protection. Like all medications, vaccinations can also have potential side effects. How will those who cannot leave home be vaccinated?
Housebound residents will receive a Covid-19 vaccine within their own home or place of residence. A special ‘roving team’ of vaccinators is delivering the service to housebound residents. Those who are housebound will have been identified by their registered GP. You can read more about accessing this service on our CCG website. Do I need my NHS number to have a vaccine?
No, you do not need to provide your NHS number at the vaccination site. However, if you do know your number it will make the process quicker at the site.
How should I prepare for the vaccine?
- Always arrive five minutes before your appointment time
- Check the route to the vaccination site and where to park using this link: nottsccg.nhs.uk/covid-19/ travelling-to-your-covid-19-vaccine-appointment
- Check the weather and wear suitable clothing for example a warm coat or jumper and comfy shoes as you will need to walk from the car to the vaccination building
- If you arrive early stay in the car until five minutes before your appointment time
- On your arrival, if you need a wheelchair and have not pre-arranged this, please tell the volunteers at the entrance
- Wear a short sleeved t-shirt or top to so you are comfortable when your vaccinator gives you the vaccine
- Anyone with symptoms of Covid-19 which are any of: a new, continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss or change to sense of smell or taste should not attend their vaccination appointment and will need to rebook
When will care homes receive the vaccination?
The roll out of vaccinations within care homes started in January. 95% of care homes had received the vaccine by Mid-February.
How will patients be invited for a vaccination?
When it is the right time people will receive an invitation, either by letter or text. For most people, this will be in the form of a letter from either their GP or the national booking system. This will include all the information they need. This is the biggest vaccination programme in UK history, which means it will take time to vaccinate all the eligible people. We know lots of people will be eager to get protected but we are asking people not to contact the NHS to get an appointment until they get their letter.
When will carers who provide unpaid support receive their vaccine?
Carers who provide unpaid support are in cohort 6 according to the JCVI guidance and includes all adult carers providing unpaid support, whether registered as a carer with their GP practice or not. They are now able to book their vaccination.
Paid carers (i.e. in receipt of Direct Payment or acting as a contractor) follow the process for front line staff, completing the relevant form.
Why is the invitation letter sending me to Mansfield or a site far away?
Two types of letters are being sent out to those who are eligible – one from the local NHS and one from the NHS Covid-19 Vaccination Booking Service.
The local letter will direct patients to Local Vaccination Services. The national letter will give the public the option of having the vaccine at a large Vaccination Centre, or a community pharmacy depending on whether these are available locally. It is important to note that the public will only receive a letter from the national NHS Covid-19 Vaccination Booking Service if they live within a 45 minute drive of one of these sites. The public can turn this down and book locally if they prefer.
Is the SwiftQueue link legitimate?
The NHS locally used software provided by SwiftQueue to facilitate the booking in of patients for their vaccine before 23 April 2021. SwiftQueue was only providing the appointment booking software, all the vaccine deployment and administration is being delivered in-house by the NHS.
Vaccination bookings after 23 April are being done via the National Booking Service or call 119.
Can I bring my children or family member to my vaccination appointment?
Whilst all of our vaccination sites are Covid-secure and follow all the relevant Infection Prevention and Control rules, we want to minimise the number of people that are on site so that social distancing can be maintained. Therefore we ask, if possible, that you come alone to your appointment. If you absolutely cannot avoid bringing your children or other family member then please let the staff at the entrance know so that we can make the appropriate arrangements to keep everyone safe.
Why do we not have more GP surgeries doing vaccinations?
In Nottingham and Nottinghamshire we have a long history of GP practices working together and our approach to the Covid-19 vaccine roll out is no different. We have taken an approach to maximise our resilience and coverage across the system to initially have fewer, larger sites delivering the vaccine rather than individual GP practices doing it alone. GP practices across the county have been contacting eligible residents to receive their vaccinations at ‘pop-up’ clinics. This model will continue to be used in areas of low uptake.
How many people have been vaccinated so far?
NHS England will publish a detailed breakdown of their figures every week which will include vaccinations in England by region. The daily vaccination statistics are published daily on the Covid-19 dashboard.
When will the public be likely to receive their second dose?
The Clinical Leaders across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire have together reviewed the recent national guidance, and have agreed that all individuals will have their second appointment scheduled between 10 and 12 weeks after their first appointment.
These arrangements will only be altered where there are exceptional clinical reasons for the second dose to be administered outside this time period. This will be determined on a case by case basis by a small independent panel.
How will you make sure that you are reaching vulnerable / excluded groups?
We are working closely with voluntary and community groups to help us reach our communities. We are holding regular community briefings to update on the progress of the programme and explain how community leaders and volunteers can help disseminate messages to the public. We are also able to translate NHS updates in multiple different languages. As part of the vaccination programme we are using “pop up” locations to allow the community to have access to vaccines in sites which are more well-known and convenient to them.
Is the vaccination booking process and the method used to contact people accessible to diverse groups?
Letters that are sent to communities offer the provision of information in a different format should this be required. We are looking to identify other ways to make the information and process more accessible and to ensure that everyone who is within a priority group is able to get vaccinated.
What proportion of the population need to be vaccinated to return to normal?
Public Health England (PHE) will employ existing surveillance systems and enhanced follow-up of cases to monitor how effective the vaccine is at protecting against a range of outcomes including: infection, symptomatic disease, hospitalisations, mortality and onwards transmission.
It is likely to be some time until we have sufficient data to provide a clear picture of how long the protective effect of vaccination lasts.

The CCG is working closely with the local councils during the pandemic. How can I complain if I am unhappy with the service?
If a patient, or someone on their behalf, is unhappy with the care received at one of the vaccination centres we would ask that they talk directly to the staff involved at the time. However, if this is not possible, or if they feel staff have been unable help, or they remain dissatisfied they can contact the Sherwood Forest Hospital’s Patient Experience Team:

Do I need to wait for a letter before I book my appointment if I am in an eligible age group?
You do not need to wait for your letter to book your appointment – please book straight away if you are in this age group.
We are writing to everyone eligible locally. We will also send a text message where possible as well.
Do I need to bring my letter to the appointment?
No, but we ask that everyone observes the guidance when booking their appointment. If you are not eligible for your vaccine yet, please do not book in for your Covid-19 vaccination appointment. It is important these appointments are protected for those who are now eligible under this cohort to help protect them against Covid-19.
I haven’t been called for a vaccine yet – have I missed my chance for an appointment now you have moved onto the next cohort?
No, absolutely not. We want to get everyone vaccinated who is eligible.

Why are there no appointments showing as available?
Please check back daily, we are releasing appointments every day and do have enough vaccine for everybody.
